Public Art Partnerships
Through Public Art Partnerships, representatives from Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda unite to explore and enhance the public art sector in their communities. This collaborative effort allows the Lamorinda Arts Council (LAC) to support initiatives that benefit each city, demonstrating that we can achieve more together than as individual organizations or municipalities.
We frequently collaborate with Moraga’s Art in Public Spaces, Orinda’s Art in Public Places, and Lafayette’s Public Art Committee. As a result, many vibrant murals and sculptures can be found throughout Lamorinda, enriching our shared spaces. These committees work to broaden public awareness and encourage meaningful dialogue about the value of public art, making our towns not only more beautiful but also more connected.
Public art is defined as artwork in the public realm — those places that are open and accessible to the public — and refers to original works of art in any artistic medium, permanent or temporary, a single event or piece, a series of installations or events, or part of an ongoing process enhanced over time. The non-profit Association for Public Art defines public art as art that can “express community values, enhance our environment, transform a landscape, heighten our awareness, or question our assumptions. Placed in public sites, this art is there for everyone, a form of collective community expression.”
Public art defines who we are as a community and illustrates what we value.
